The Art of Shred – Justin Bruursema / Burly Surfboards

More media from the Lakes. This short video follows Justin Bruursema in the process of shaping surfboards in Michigan, and how he got started. Makes me miss those fall days in MI. Had some seriously fun sessions in freshwater!

Victory At Sea…I mean Lake!

Today the Great Lakes are being hammered by the Eastern band of the system that was once Hurricane Sandy.  With said hammering comes buoy readings of 20 plus feet in the middle of Lake Michigan.  At the South end of the lake we are likely to see 30 PLUS FEET!!!  That’s the biggest forecast I have ever seen on Lake MI.  In Chicago, all the pathways to the lake front have been shut down, and I am sure the story is the same around the bend.  We surfed the building section of the storm last night and had chest high gold at a spot in Holland, but “The Big Drink” is angry today, and Sandy is the one who teed it off! Image

ARC SURF Camp This Friday

I’m currently back in Michigan and it works out as we are having another ARC surf camp this Friday at Camp Geneva in Holland, Mi. Unlike previous surf camps where we’ve had younger kids, Friday’s camp will be strictly one on one surf instructions for teenaged kids from downtown Grand Rapids. We are stoked, and hope they are as well! Of course anyone in the area is welcome to help out in any way, and prayers are always appreciated. We feel blessed to be able to share the stoke with the kids!

ARC Surf MI

During the first week of July ARC held a surf camp with 70 youth and 30 plus volunteers out at Camp Geneva.  God blessed us with safety, great weather, and a bit of a wave.

A huge thanks to the folks from Surf Tech and MyGreatLake for helping out.  Enjoy some photo highlights of this camp, and get ready for our August 7-10 camps out at Holland State Park!!!
